Jessica shared another entitled ‘You’:
You demand my heart to trust in you
In anything and everything
Even when this life sends its fiercest storms
You demand my heart and soul to trust in you
In anything and everything
Even when I go through valleys or desolate lands
You demand that I trust you completely
In anything and everything
And when my heart lays heavy on my
And troubles surround me on every side
And when waves tower over me
And the darkness has its hold on my heart
I have nowhere else to turn but to you
In you alone I will put my trust
For your grace will carry me when I am too weak to carry on
And your mercy will deliver me from any trouble that I face
And when the waves come crashing over me
I will lift up my eyes and call on your name
To raise me above the stormy waves
And your love will set my feet on solid ground
And your faithfulness will blot out the darkness
Lurking in my heart
Your light will shine in me
And I will sing and praise your name
No matter what I face in this life
I will put my trust in you alone

Jessica Sisson blessed us with a ‘modern day Psalm’ she wrote to Jesus:
Desperate Hearts
Desperation has taken hold on my heart
Helplessness has driven my knees
To the ground before you.
Pain strikes at my heart
And the skies above me darken
But still my hands are lifted up to you
In whole surrender
My soul cries out to you from
The depths of this dark, despairing place
My lips still bless your awesome, holy name
even in the midst of this storm
My head is bent under this weight
Depression gnaws at my bones
And sorrow is the only sonnet my heart knows
Yet your are still faithful
Even in this dark and hopeless place
You will pour out your unfailing love
And your faithfulness will shine through
Darkened skies

We continued in our study of 1 Thessalonians as Pastor Deason gave an exhortation to be deliberate in our responses to Satan’s attacks, rather than reactive. The text was 1 Thessalonians 2:17-3:13.
We enjoyed having Tony and Brianna Boes with us Sunday evening. Pastor Tony brought a message on the dangers of forgetting the gospel, focusing on the parable of the sower.

This morning we went on to the second chapter of 1 Thessalonians and considered the biblical measure of a minister of the gospel.
In the evening, Pastor Dan Reed brought an exhortation from Hebrews 12 on putting off those things which may not be inherently “bad” but which slow us down in our eternally important pursuit of Christ.

Pastor Dan preached out of 1 Thessalonians, chapter 1 about the characteristics of a model church.
Here’s an excerpt which explains the importance of imitating our Lord:
Our goal is to be like Christ. So if our goal is to be like Christ, there’s nothing more important that we can do than imitate Christ…Now we are taught that imitation is the highest form of flattery. You imitate those people that you love and respect. It’s also the highest form of Christianity. We imitate our Savior who loved us. He lived a perfect life. He lived the life we should have lived. He took the death that you and I deserve. And now He comes back and says, “Just believe in Me and I’ll lift you to a height that you’ve never been to before. I am the way, the truth, and the life.” And you see, when we imitate Christ, then that is the evidence, is it not, that we have welcomed – that we have accepted – the gospel. And the end result then of accepting and being transformed by the gospel is that we become a role model.

Pastor Dan Deason was back with us this morning, and led us in a study of the parable of the sower. Click here for the scripture text.

Pastor Carl Gillmore and his wife Lois drove down from Indy to help us out Sunday. We had already met their son Darren, who brought some excellent messages for our mid-week services.
Archives
Here’s the only messages I could find that had been saved on the church computer. There were also some by Brother Bob England and Pastor Jack Dillon, but unfortunately they required an additional file to play. The missing file must have been deemed redundant by the recorder, and therefore deleted (easy mistake to make – who would think a simple audio file could need one more file plus an additional folder of related files!) Here are the messages which were in mp3 format:

It’s easy for a small church to lose sight of the fact that so many times, when God wants to do something great, he works through the small. And so the question isn’t whether or not God can use a little bit and bless it and do mighty and powerful things for the kingdom of heaven. The question really is: “Do we have faith to understand that?”
